Why get involved?
Shropshire is a wonderful place to live and work but there’s a widening gap between the average salary and the average house price, with many local employees and young professionals leaving the area for more affordable housing.
When people move away from towns and villages, it has a knock-on effect on the services available; pubs and schools close, bus services are reduced, and local businesses can suffer.
As part of Shropshire Council’s housing team, we want to make sure that everyone in the county has access to a home that meets their needs.
Throughout the year, Right Home, Right Place runs questionnaires in all participating parishes across Shropshire, except for Telford & Wrekin.
These surveys are invaluable, not just for helping Shropshire Council to understand the different demographics and housing needs in your parish, but also for parish councils to get a clearer picture of whether affordable housing is needed in that parish – and by whom.
Many people think the survey doesn’t apply to them – but it’s essential that everyone completes this invaluable questionnaire – whatever their property status and even if they’re happy with their current home.
Without finding out about people’s current housing situation, we have no way of understanding whether there’s enough of the right properties in a parish for those who need them; whether it’s a single mother living with parents, an older person looking for a property with easier mobility, an individual who can’t get on the property ladder or a young family who needs something larger.
